WEREWOLF. noun.:
(in folklore and superstition) a human being who has changed into a wolf, or is capable of assuming the form of a wolf, while retaining human intelligence.
Werewolves have always existed in the darker parts of human nature. In horror movies, in our nightmares, in our imagination. Very few people believe them to be actual creatures of flesh and blood, but here, we know differently. Or, at least we used to...
Welcome to Redwood, a small city just outside of Seattle. You can find your cityslickers here, you know, those people who think it would be so cute and charming to live in a small city like Redwood, where everyone is seemingly friendly. You have the locals, who take the beautiful mountain landscapes and the forests for what they're worth.
And then, you have the hidden ones.
The werewolves.
These creatures are unknown to the city folk, and ignored by the locals.
Back in 1877, during the time of Redwood's founding, the werewolves were discovered. The people here formed bonds with these diplomatic, fairytale creatures. Some even married into the werewolf family, and all was peaceful, but not for long.
A young werewolf lost his temper with his human lover and killed here, setting off a powderkeg of violence. The wolves killed the humans, the humans killed the wolves. This lasted for five years, until the leader of the wolves, named Raphael made a pact with the humans. The werewolves vowed to stay in the dense forests outside the city, and the humans agreed to let them be.
All of this was written down as part of the history of Redwood.
A few years later, all of those documents were destroyed, for reasons unknown. The humans seemed to forget the werewolves that had once been their companions. The wolves' legacy lived on, through word of mouth, through those scary tales told around the campfire. The locals here in Redwood know exactly where these werewolves are, but they just choose to ignore what they'd rather forget...
